Smoked Bamboo Tea Scoop Chashaku | Suikoen 茶杓 奈良高山平田
A Chashaku is a bamboo tea utensil used to scoop matcha into a tea bowl.
It is made from high-quality bamboo that has been exposed over a fireplace or hearth in a traditional Japanese ceiling to produce it’s unique color and markings.
Generally, white bamboo is used in the Urasenke school, while soot bamboo is used in the Omotesenke school. Individual tea masters also choose to their liking.
Tea scoops are sensitive to moisture and may become bent if washed with water, so if matcha gets on them, wipe them off with a dry cloth or tissue.
